VZ update
Jana's knee is making progress. Walking more normal and sleeping better. Her first vb camp is this weekend....she'll have to sit and watch....bummer. She's made a lot of progress in 2 weeks so if this keeps up hopefully she'll be ready to go by beginning of september.
Den, Scott and I are driving up to Minneapolis tomorrow for the Twins game tomorrow night and then drive back Thursday morning.
Jody has accepted a position at a hospital in Milwaukee. I'll let her tell you more about it! (hint, hint Jody) :)
Apparently the Brewers have been playing really well lately so Jody and Shane have great tickets for the Wed night game, that a friend gave them.
We are attending another wedding on Saturday. Wedding #9 of 10 this summer.
Jana had her senior pictures taken today. Kind of sad....my last one.

Happy Anniversay
I had an interesting afternoon on Saturday...........my toilet overflowed :( The stopper didn't close properly and one of the rubber hoses in the tank came off so then after the stool was flushed and started filling again it jsut didn't stop. I was already out to the living room at the time so between the tv and airconditioning I don't know how long it was before i realized that water was running and by the time i got to the bathroom the whole floor was filled with water. It was in the storage area under the sink, going underneath the closet door and just starting into the hall way carpet.......So i got it stopped and then quickly empited my closet of towels and soaked up towel after towel after towel of water. Little did I know that was only round one...
Dad and Mom pulled my camped back to sioux falls and then did some shopping and came to my place so I had Dad help me fix it. Problem was it happened again ---- Mom was the culprit this time :) So Dad (glad he was here) shut off the water right away and this time we sopped up the water on the floor again and once that was taken care of we went to Target to get some supplies and then went out to the pizza Ranch. We came back to the apartment and fixed my toilet and they left to go back home. Even with the toilet troubles it was a nice afternoon and evening spent with Dad and Mom.
Well, that is all from Sioux Falls South Dakota ---I am going to go back to bed and see if I can sleep. GO VIKINGS ---- Vonda

What a difference a year makes!

. Now one year later, I walked the event as "a cancer survivor". This meant that I was 1 of 300 cancer survivors that started out the festivities by walking the openeing lap of the ceremony. We were led by the Sioux Falls Color guard and a drum corp. As we walked the first lap they read the names of all the survivors and it was really neat becasue just as I crossed the finished line they read my name. They also had cheerleaders performing tower stunts as the end of the lap so we "walked through them" at the end of the lap as they cheered us on.
All survivors were given purple balloons and as we all crossed the finished line 300 balloons were let go into the air. After that we were treated to a supper in the survivor tent and listened to seminars on cancer. During this time my friends walked the laps outside and I joined them about 8:30.
Then at 9:30 they held the lumiany ceremoy where they had a lady speak about her son that she lost to cancer and then they started lighting all the luminaries along the track. They asked us at that time to walk one lap in silence in memory of everyone who had died of this disease.
After that they started the games, movies, and entertainment to get everyone through the night. the closing ceremony was at 6AM on Saturday morning. I didn't stay that late but thought i'd post some pictures of the event.
Thanks everyone for helping me through the last year! I love each and every one of you and you all helped my in your own special way. Vonda

Jana's appointment
As I write this I got to thinking that I did not send Jana's cousins the e-mail, so I will write the lastest again anyway. :)
Overall the knee is looking good. Got stitches out. She's still in some pain but they said this is normal. She can start some physical therapy. They did not recommend her playing in their first team camp on Augst 1 and 2. Disappointed and frustrated with that of course. They said if she pushes it to quick she could battle problems all season but if we take it slow she should be 100% and playing with manageable pain for her senior year. So that's good news. The problem will be getting her to stick to the slow and gradual approach!

Hangin' with the best aunt
The apartment is now much cooler and Deidra and I will be sleeping on the couches. (Deidra is coming to work with me a few days this week, it is great to have an extra hand around!)That is all for now, Tony and I only have 19 days left in the states. This is both exciting and sad, we are trying to get many things done in the last few weeks, I'm sure we will be ready to go when the day comes.

Nothing new in SF
Valleyfair!
So Jess and I just got back from our weekend at Valleyfair with some friends. Yesterday we left from Rock Valley, IA at 5:45 AM and traveled up to Shakopee. The weather was a little questionable, so when we hit hard rain just past Worthington we were a little nervous and almost turned around, but we figured even if we got rained out there are other things to do in the Twin Cities (and of course Jess immediately mentioned the Twins game). As soon as we got into Valleyfair at 10:00 AM it started to sprinkle and we were a little nervous because they do not give refunds no matter what. Thankfully that is all we saw for rain until about 6:00 PM when we were riding a rollercoaster and got poured on, which was an interesting experience and a little painful (hard rain while you are going fast doesn't feel too good). Again, we were fortunate because that shower only lasted about 15-20 minutes. The whole day was wonderful because the weather kept big crowds away and the longest we had to wait in line was probably 25 minutes. It was also warm enough that we got to do the water park and we stood on the bridge by The Wave about 10 times and got completely soaked!! I don't think I have ever been that wet in my life! Needless to say we were all really happy we decided NOT to turn around on the way there. Unfortunately, we did not take any pictures just because it is kind of a pain to carry a camera around all day when you want to ride the rides. We got a hotel room last night because no one was awake enough to drive home, and now that we are home we are REALLY tired! So, I hope you all had as exciting a weekend as we did! (At the Dutch Festival perhaps?)

siding fixed!!
It's raining in Milwaukee this morning too grandma.
Anyways- the reason for this blog is to say that our siding on our garage is fixed! My grandpa and grandma Van Zanten were here to help with a few electrical things so we had him look at the siding and he just put it up there and snapped it in place and it worked perfectly...... Shane and I felt pretty stupid but- it happens right?! :) Thanks for the advice Arvin, Delaine and Deidra :) Alrighty we hope everyone has a great weekend!!
Shane and Jody (and Mark and Jana- they're visiting us this weekend!!!)
Pella
WE had 1 1/2 inches of rain yesterday morning and this morning we had another 4 tenths. We needed it bad as the crops and lawns were suffering.God answered our prayers. It is cloudy and cooler today.Grandma

Flying over NW Iowa
Jana, looking good! Hope the recovery goes fast. I know how hard it is for you to sit, especially with volleyball starting soon.
As promised, here are some pictures from our plane ride. We flew around Orange City a few times, Sioux Center, Hull, Rock Valley, Alton, and the many corn fields. We were in the air for about 45 minutes, so it was a nice ride. Everything looks so strange from above, so neat and perfect, and kind of like a model of reality. Jess actually got to drive the plane for a little bit, so he was pretty pumped about that. The pictures here will be of the building that burned on main street Orange City, us in front of the plane, Dordt's campus (for all you Defenders) and of course, the NWC football field :)
I will put more pictures on Facebook if anyone is interested. They all kind of look the same, but it was a cool experience for us. And yes, Mom, is was just a little 4 passenger plane, but it was perfectly safe. And Dad, the plane was built in 1966 (a little history note) and sorry we didn't fly over Chandler. Jess' boss did offer to take us again though, so maybe next time.
Love you all!

Hey Mom I finally did a blog
I am finally writing on the blog. I hope you are happy. Don't expect anything for a long time now. If you want to know what we are up to please walk across the street and ask. If the rest of you want to know what is happening please come visit!!!!
As long as I am writing I thought I would try to load a video as well.
The video is on our way back from CA. The kid's highlight was feeding the chipmunks.

some fun pictures from today :)

Here is a picture of Jana before surgery. She is very exited about the TED hose that she gets to wear! :)
Jana and Mark at our house. He is quite pleased that he is now on the VW blog and so is Jana :) She was very aware of everything going on pretty quickly after surgery- she didn't even say anything weird..... too bad :) Otherwise the day went pretty smooth-I did not get paid extra since she never threw up but thats ok :) I'm heading back to Milwaukee tomorrow. We hope everyone else is doing well!!-Jody and the rest of the VZ's

Thinking of you Jana...
Another week in the OC :)
Well, as you can all see we did have some fun last weekend (especially picking on Deidra). I really do not have too much to blog about, but upon the request of my older cousin I decided I better write something ;) . This week is a fairly normal week for Jess and I, but there are a few exciting things happening. We work everyday and Jess plays softball tonight. Either Wednesday or Thursday night we hope to go for a plane ride with Jess' boss. He owns and flies a little plane and offered to give us a ride, so we are pretty excited about that. Also, on Saturday we are heading up to Valleyfair with some friends, so we are really excited about that. I will try to post some pictures from both the plane ride and Valleyfair. We are also thinking about how fast this past year went. It is hard to believe we have been married almost a year already. I don't know, but if marriage is anything like school every year will just go faster, and I don't know if it is possible for time to go any faster! Well, hopefully you are all surviving the heat and having a wonderful week! Jana, we are praying for a successful surgery and a speedy recovery. Try not to get too bored when you have to sit still and recover ;). Love you all!

Jana surgery date
Jana has decided to give up the tournament in AZ and get her knee surgery done. She'd rather be ready for her Sr. year of vb, playing with her team mates than to do this camp and we agree with her. This way her surgery will be finished and hopefully she can start playing a little bit at her first vb camp on August 1 and 2.
Her surgery is scheduled for next Wed. July 16.
Jana's softball team lost last night in 8 innings. Top of the 8th it was tied and Jana had a hit to score a gal on the 3rd so we were up 3-2. Bottom of the 8th our starting pitcher was out do to breathing problems. They scored two in the bottom of the 8th to win 4-3.

pictures
Arla, I got an email from Shutterfly that they shipped the pictures to you today - so you should get them in the next few days.
What decision / if any did Jana make about surgery?
Danielle has spent the week by me so that has been nice hanging out with her. My life in SF has been the same work, eat, sleep and sit by the pool :)
This weekend a friend of mine will be here from Wisconsin so am looking forward to that.
Take care everyone and keep on bloggin, we even got Arvin doing it (with Deidra's help - but it is a start)

Possible solution to your siding problem
deidra and arvin
p.s. u may call my dad because he is not computer literate (lol) if you have any questions.
anyone want to give us any suggestions?? :)
Here is a close up picture. Do we need to buy some glue or what do you guys think?? The other pieces of siding all kinda fit together and it looks like some sort of glue was on the piece that fell off it just didn't last. There are no nails in the siding so we really have no idea. Any suggestions would be great :) Thanks!! Hope everyone has a good night!!
Jana's making Profession of Faith!
Just wanted to share the great news that Jana is making Profession of Faith on August 17! We don't expect anyone (other then Grandpa and Grandma of course) :) to come but just wanted you to be aware of it.

test results
new phone #
Just a reminder that I got a new cell phone number and it is 1-605-610-6028. My old number was still from Brookings and I never had a reason to change it so I didn't however, my security system in my apartment is set up so when you come to my apartment you punch in my apartment number and then it rings my phone and I let you in the door. The thing is it only works with a local number so i had to get it changed. I think i have had enough changes lately and it should be my last...I think! Vonda
Jana's MRI results
Good news in that Jana's ACL and Meniscus are fine. She will need to have surgery to scope behind her knee cap to scrape some cartilage away. (at least that's my understanding of it) The problem is when to do the surgery in her busy schedule. She would be out for at least two weeks before she could start playing again and of course this would be a gradual process of getting her back into game shape.
The Dr. said she could possibly wait until after volleyball season but she would be playing all season at not 100%. She could do it right after softball but than would miss the volleyball tournament in AZ. She could wait to do it after vb in AZ but then she would be starting slow with her high school team camps in August.
So she has a decision to make....please keep her in your prayers will you? Thanks.
Love,
Arla

My 4th of July was a fizzle...
Dad, Mom, Loren and the kids were going to come up to SF on the afternoon of the 4th annd go out for pizza and swim but i got sick the night before. I went to bed feeling fine but woke up around 2 am throwing up and having extreme back pain on my right side. Everytime I thought I was done throwing up, I'd go back to bed and try to get comfortable when i'd have to get up and make a dash for the bathroom again. I was very close to calling a friend to take me to the ER that night because this went on for about 3 hours but evenutally let up. I didn't eat anything again till the night of the 4th when I had some soup and crackers. I feel much better today. I don't know what happened or why such extreme pain but glad when it was over.
Today - just kind of hung around the apartment and sat out on the deck. :)
The job continues to go well and I love the new hours and am looking forward to this fall when I can travel and see all my kids (nephews and nieces) play in sports.
For those relative in Wisconsin and Iowa I posted pictures of the apartment on shutterfly.
Sandy if you happen to read this in California I hope things are going as well as could be expected and remember you are in my thoughts and prayers.
Well, that is all from Sioux Falls.

Favre to the Vikes! (Don't read if not interested)
Apparently Favre wants to come back and the packers don't want him to. So he asked for his release. The packers haven't given it to him yet but it sounds like if he really wants to come back they can't stop him... so, bring him to the Vikes!
He would take over the offense- no matter how much Childress tries to mess it up. Favre just would not listen. Plus TJack could learn from him (even though he is ready to dominate this year minus Childress.) And if he sticks around for another year we could bring back Randy Moss because him and Favre always wanted to play together.
That's right Shane. Favre wants to retire as a Viking. Loren you were right back in the day, Favre's not all bad.
Sorry if you're bored by this. I warned you in the title.
Jana won her game tonight 14-2. She went 4-4 but didn't hit any bombs... weak.
Have good 4ths everyone.

time for bed
Apartment
Thank you all for taking part in the blog. I am thrilled it is getting put to such good use. I just got the computer hooked up tonight so happy belated birthday Scott. Sorry I didn't call you yesterday but hope it was a great day anyway.
I love the idea about buying the dome. The name is quite long but I think people would get used to it.
I had a busy week. I had 3 doctor appointments (nothing serious - just yearly checkups) and of course the move. THANKS TO EVERYONE FOR HELPING! I am very happy with the decision to move and love the new apartment. I really didn't gain space but the layout and use of closets are much better. I can/will even be using my patio - I never used the one at the old apartment because it was just to small. If it is nice weather over the 4th i will make use of the outdoor pool also. YEAH :)
I am going to try and put a video on so the Iowan's can see it but if not then i will jsut post the pictures. Love ya all - and keep on bloggin-------Vonda
Stuff
Vonda, good idea with this thing.
Deidra, I want to see more posts out of you. About your boyfriend(s?).
The Twins won 7-0 over the Tigers today in case you missed it. Lots of winning for the Twins lately. Very good stuff.
I've been thinking about the Vikings a little bit lately and some of that thinking hasn't even been about how awful Childress is. So here's my idea: The FCVW continues the bonding started with this blog and pitches in to buy the naming rights for the Dome. I think the FCVW, Action Signs and Billboards, Chandler Machine Shop, Taco Bell, Best Buy Dome has a nice ring to it. (Best Buy and the Bell could be the minor sponsors.) I think this is the perfect 3 birds with 1 stone solution- we could solve the new stadium issue that we're all worried about and give some solid advertising to the FCVW businesses. Plus we could make sure everyone in the FCVW family gets lifetime passes to Vikes games so we will have more reunionish opportunities. Just a thought.
Travis, Jeremy, Leon, and Sharla- Have as much fun as is possible in Wisconsin. See you in a couple days maybe, otherwise make sure the Twins stay hot.

She's been converted!
Hi everyone. Jana met with the specialist this morning and we are thankful and grateful for answered prayers that he says it is not her ACL. We were not able to get an MRI done today but will do that next Tuesday. He is concerned about her knee cap and possibly her maniscus but won't know for sure until he has the MRI results. He says she can play softball as whatever damage is done is done and it won't make any difference. The issue will be if she can handle the pain. Surgery is still a possibility on these other issues I mentioned but we'll wait and see. Jana's just thankful she can play as tournaments start Thursday night.
He did not seem at all concerned about the bone cyst and we'll have a routine x-ray done in 6 months to double check on it.
We'll keep you posted. Thanks for the concern.
Love,
Arla
video??
Hello to everyone! Shane and I are back from Florida- we had a great time!! The wedding that Shane was a groomsman in went great and it was incredibly nice- by far the most elaborate wedding we'll probably ever go to. I haven't uploaded any of those pictures yet but I'll send one of the reception hall so you can all see what I mean :) I did try to upload some videos from our honeymoon- we went on the zip-line over the rainforest so hopefully those work. Shane didn't quite make it all the way to the platform but he still did a good job :) Ohh and Delaine- Shane read your post and he just laughed and shook his head :) It's really nice to be on the winning side of this rivalry :) Take care everyone!!
