PEA SOUP = SNERT
Erwtensoep, also called "snert" is a form of green split-pea soup emblematic of Dutch cuisine. Traditionally eaten in winter, erwtensoep has a very thick consistency, often includes pork and sausage, and is almost a stew rather than a soup. One source says "You should be able to stand a spoon upright in a good pea soup."[2]
It is customarily served with rye bread (roggebrood) and cheese or butter. The meat may be put on the rye bread and eaten with mustard.
It is not uncommon to be sold in small cups at the so called 'Koek en zopie' outlets on frozen canals as a hearty snack to iceskaters.

The link is kind of fun to read it shows a recipe for pea soup and some Dutch translations.

vacation!
It was great to spend a relaxing week with our whole family in Arizona. We are very thankful that Shane and Jody were able to join us and that Scott and Jana's Spring Breaks were at the same time. The weather was great...in the mid 80's all week!
We spent a lot of time relaxing by the pool but also found time to watch a Milwaukee Brewers spring training baseball game and Den and Scott one night also went and watched the Philadelphia 76's and Phoenix Suns basketball game. We also hiked a little in Sabino Canyon and the Saguaro Desert. The highlight at Saguaro Desert was that we were on the path walking back and Jody and Jana were taking the lead and Jana all of the sudden saw a 4 foot rattlesnake right in front of them! The thing wouldn't move, so we went off the path and walked way around it! Needless to say our pace picked up drastically after that!
We also all made our picks for the NCAA tournament. Den's gets a little frustrated when someone (namely his wife) has no idea about the teams and doesn't even spell them right and yet somehow she is ahead of him (so far at least) :)
We got home at 11:30 last night.
Take care.

Mole update
She said this is good that we caught it as this stage and someting we will have to keep a close eye on in the future. I asked her how I was suppose to do that since I am single and can't really see my back to examine any moles. She suggested when I am home to have Mom look at my back every time and also every month or so have Mom take digital pictures of my back and the upload them on my computer. That way I can closely examine to see if there are any differences.
She (was my general doctor) is going to forward the lab results to Dr. Bell ( my Oncologist who did the hysterectomy) so she is aware of the situation. I don't forsee having to do anything else but keep a very close eye on the moles.
I am heading home tomorrow and meeting Delaine and Deidra in Edgerton to get my hairxcut and then I will head home to Chandler have dinner with the folks and spend the afternoon with them and then we will go to Pizza Ranch in Edgerton for supper and I will be back in Siox Falls tomorrow night.
Love ya all, Vonda

black beard
Dad's Birthday
I don't know when this picture was taken or if it was even around the same time as the next picture but at least it gives you an idea of what Dad/Grandpa looked like when he wore a beard. I don't remember if he wore it all the time or just around the 4th of July. I remember Leota having a beard judging contest? Dad, Mom help me out~

ankle
I want to clarify my remark about the broken ankle bone. I think it would be understood better if you go to this link and look at the picture. I am not sure which one is broke but either my lateral malleolus or medial malleolus is the bone that is broken off. It is one of the bones that help stabalize the ankle. Vonda

a walk down memory lane...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY LEON!
I went to the doctor today and had 7 moles removed. They will send 5 of them to the lab and the other two were just because I wanted them removed. Mom, the one that you HATE on my foot, I had them remove that one plus one on my back that always got hooked on my bra strap. I don't feel the other 5 are a huge concern but were a bit different and felt it was better safe then sorry and followed the docs advice and had them removed.
Loren, Sandy and kids were in town so after my appointment I picked the kids up at the mall and Sandy continued her shopping. Loren was doing some work around town. Then we all went out to Applebee's. It was a very nice time and a fun way to spend Friday (other the the moles of course).
Well, that is all from Sioux Falls,

Fun 10 days!
Lord willing we are looking forward to a fun 10 days coming up! This afternoon we take a van full of girls up to Des Moines to go out to eat and then watch our PC boys in the State Championship! We play Solon who beat Western Christian yesterday 83-80 in DOUBLE over time. What a game!
Tomorrow Scott and Jana are playing in a coed volleyball tournament in Des Moines so that should be lot of fun. Then Sunday morning early we take off for AZ for a week. It is working out so great that Jody and Shane can come along and that both Scott and Jana's Spring Breaks are at the exact same time!
Forecast for AZ looks like in the 80's while we are there, so we're praying that holds true so that we can all have a very relaxing time sitting by the pool in the sun!
I hope all is going well for all of you. Happy Birthday Leon!
