Hi all,
So Shane and I wanted to update you all on our recent Dr. visits. We still don't know exactly what the plan will be but we talked with a Cardiologist today and he thinks that the changes in Shane's heart from last year to this year are significant and that surgery should be in the near future (he said like within the next month). To try to make a long story short- He has a bicuspid aortic valve-only 2 flaps (most people have a tricuspid aortic valve- 3 flaps) so his aortic valve leaks a "moderate to severe amount" according to the Dr. sis heart has also enlarged some to compensate as has his aorta. So yea he wants us to meet with a cardiac surgeon in the area soon and then if we want a second opinion he recommended Mayo Clinic or possible Iowa City..... Some opinions include 1) a pig or cow heart valve but those are not able to work for more than like 20 years 2) a mechanical valve but then he would have to be on a blood thinner for the rest of his life and get his blood drawn like every month 3) repair his valve- alot harder procedure that might not work and then they would have to replace the valve after a certain number of years..... blah! Anyways we'll keep u all updates. Thanks for your thoughts and prayers!

good news - but rough day
I got a call today from Dr. Hubers and he said that the bone marrow test came back good. NO CANCER! However, he does not know the reason the marrow looks the way it does on the scans so I have a CAT Scan scheduled tomorrow at 2:30 and then will go over the results with him on Wednesday at 10:40 am. He is doing this test to make sure there is no spots or areas of concern on my organs like liver, kidney, etc......
I didn't go into work today as I was shot. I got up and sent my boss an email and then slept till 1:30 this afternoon. I got out of bed and dmade it to the couch and then slept from 3-6pm. I am just finishing a pizza now and will be going back to bed and hopefully be able to go into work tomorrow. I wn't have any more news will after I talk to the doctor on Wednesday about the Cat Scan results.

Merry Christmas to our kids and grandkids
We had a very relaxing day--Vonda went to church with us. Had dinner and the 3 of us laid down for 2and 1/2 hours and napped. Leon ,Sharla and family stopped by at 4:oo and left 5:30 same time vonda left for S F . Then Dad and i played games for a few hours and then fixed a sandwich and now are ready for bed--i know it's early but we have 2 bigs days coming up you know!!!!!! Hope everyone had a good Christmas and see you all tomorrow .Praying for good weather and safe travel.Love Mom/Grandma

Holiday Inn Express
I called the motel [actually she called me] and she asked what time they needed to have our meeting room set up for sat. And i asked if we couldn't put our things in there already on Friday afternoon when we arrived. Oh she said i think that would be o k but let me check.She informrd me it was rented out for all day and evening until 11:00 friday night. She said she was sorry but otherwise we could have done that. So be prepared to not have it when we get there. She said they would try very to have it done by 8:00 am sat. morning. Mom

me again
Not much more to say then what I wrote in the first blog. I slept from about 12:30-3:30 and then again about 5-7pm (or something like that). The pain in manageable jsut very very stiff and sore. I hope to go to work tomorrow as we only work 8-12pm. I know, I know - what a life only working 4 hours. Sitting isn't going real well yet as it gets quite for from the pressure while sitting up. So I sit up for a bit and lay down and then sit up for a bit and lay down... you get the idea. I do hope to make it to work tomorrow through and at least give it a try.
I will definately allow myself extra time to get ready tomorrow as not moving as quickly as I did yesterday. I am just thanksfull the put me out and i didn't have to deal with the pain during the procedure - He said I should have the results by Tuesday of next week.

I am home - procedure went well. Very very sore and not moving will quick but no paid involved during the procedure as the drugged me up :) I will write more later the folks are with me now and will stay till this afternoon for sure. Gotta go lay down, thanks for the prayers

ME
How is that for a title (ME) a blog about no one and nothing else but ME! Ok, anyway as you know I got a call about 11:30 today and they asked if I could be at the Oncologist at 1PM for paperwork and then see the specialist Dr. Huber at 1:15 so of course I said yes.
It was a pretty straightforward meeting. He said I was being referred to him becasue he is a bone and blood cancer specialist and Dr. Eid (my previous specialist) wanted him to look at the results of all the bone scans I had done and he felt I should have a bone marrow biopsy done. Dr. Hubers agreed, he said that normal bone marrow is even and flat and mine shows up on the scans as rough and patchy. (great medical terms huh)
He then proceeded to explain the procedure to me. He said the bone marrow is the soft stuff inside the bone so they will sedate me and then use a needle to go through the bone and aspirate (withdraw) the marrow. Then it will be tested and hopefully we will have some type of answer. They will do the procedure twice and it will be done once on each side of my him.
He was quite upfront about the whole thing and said "you don't show many of the signs of a blood cancer - but if it isn't that then I don't know what it is." So I asked him if this comes back as cancer it would be cancer of the blood or bone marrow correct and not bone cancer and he said yes. I asked if it is that why wouldn't it have shown up in the 18 blood tests i had done and he stated most blood cancers will not show up in a blood test. (Ok, that doesn't make sense to me but that is what he said)
He asked alot about the breast biopsies I have had done over the years and the fact I was diagnosed with Cowdens Syndrome years ago (this was when they removed the polyps from my colon) I assured him they were always tested and none were cancer.
I asked if the bone marrow test came back good what is the course of action then - and he was quite honest and said he would have me have a mammorgram to make sure no issues there and then order a CAT scan to get another scan of the bones and they would keep a very close eye on things.
He ended with saying "I know you want answers --- but yet you don't" I told him he was pretty correct on that and he ended again by asking about if i had pain, night sweats, fever, chills etc.... I answered all thosee questions and he said "well, you certainly don't present with signs of it being cancer but if it isn't I don't know at this point what we are dealing with.
There ya hae it folks - you now know as much about it as I do which is NOTHING!

The folks are on their way to SF tonight to stay here and I ahve to be at the hospital at 6:30 and sign it, get checked in, get my IV etc... she said the bone marrow biopsy will not start before 8am.

Vonda has seen the Oncology doctor at one today and she will have a bone marrow biopsy done tomorrow morning at 8:00 a m.They will do one on each hip--she will be sudated. She has to be at the Hospital at 6:30. It will be a week before she hears the results. She will email on the blog tonight .Love mom

So I've been studying for exams all day and decided to reward myself with a break of getting in the internet and looking at the blog. Merry Christmas
I [mom or grandma as some call me] am ending a tradition that i started in 1983 by sending out a Christmas letter each year. However, to replace that i will send a note on the family blog.
To our children and grandchildren --grandpa and i would like to say ''thank you" for all the love, prayers and concern you have shown to us in this past year.Thanks for the Christmas cards and pictures and also keeping us informed all year through the emails and pictures on the blog. We so appreciate that!!What would we do without family--or computer!!! We are so blest!! God has been so good---even in the not so good times over the years---He is always there for us.There are times we must be reminded we need to submit to His will ---it's not always the way we want it but we must pray "Thy will be done."
Last but not least we thank God for the many blessings He has given us over the years.And one of the many is ---we thank Him for our christian family.God over the years has been working in our children's lives and now in our grandchildren and soon our to be great-grandchildren lives. We thank Him for giving us 4 wonderful God fearing in-laws. We as parents tryed to set an example in our daily walk in life and with Gods help and many many prayers we can see our children and our children's children following in the ways of the Lord.What a blessing!!!

a walk down memory lane...
Considering the weather outside tonight (YIKES - it is cold out) I thought this picture is appropriate.
My only news here is that Aunt Hillbilly is back. For those of you who don't know about that - that is the name Jeremy called me a few years ago when i had to have some of my front teeth pulled. Anyway, I lost a bottom tooth last night. The tooth is gone to the gum line but doesn't bother me so I a mnot going in to the dentist. Plus, you really can't notice it so I will at least get to next year before I do anything with it since I haven't used any of my dental deductable at this time.
I have my dexa scan tomorrow at 10:15 am. So I am sure will be at least another week to ten days before I hear on that. Otherwise, it is pretty much life as normal. Eat, sleep and work.
As I hope everyone else is, I am looking forward to seeing everyone (especially Mark) at the hotel! Come on Jana, you didn't think you'd get by without me giving you a "little" bit of grief did you? Don't worry, I will be nice - it was mostly Jody and Danielle that always gave me grief about my love life.

fun times!
Good morning everyone,
Yesterday was such a fun day. We had 13 girls at our house all afternoon getting their hair and nails done for the Christmas Banquet at night. Every bathroom was full and every plug in being utilized! Even blew a fuse at one point! Then it was time for some of the mom's to show up to take pictures and then the boy friends came to pick up the girls, so we had a house full. What a special memory.....I think it was just as much fun for Den and I as it was for the girls! We will miss all this activity next year. Eleven years of high schooler's, with kids coming and going all the time....it will be different. :( We will miss it that's for sure! Anyway....then last night we had 5 couples after the banquet who ate and played games and then later had 12 girls stay over night. You should see our house......bodies, bags, purses, shoes, dresses, make up, hair dryers, curling irons all over the whole house! :) As a senior mom I got to help serve at the banquet and watch the program so that was a lot of fun too!
Well....we're going to need a LOT of showers and hot water for all these girls to get ready for church this morning, so I think I better get my shower finished before they need it.
Counting down the days till Christmas!!!! Can't wait to see you all!

Oh boy, how and where to do I begin?
Well, went to the specialist today to talk to him about the Pagets Disease and was in for a bit of a surprise becasue he said "I am 99.8% sure you DO NOT have Pagets Disease!"
He then spent the next 2 hours talking with me and going over everything I have ever had done since I was born, (the back brace, the foot surgeries, colon surgeries, breast biopsies, moles removed, thyroid removed, the cancer etc....) He jotted everything down and asked a million and one questions about it all.
While doing all this and answering his questions he asked me if it was normal for my right eye to be staring off like that? I said no, but said I noticed this morning it was a "bit off" (my eye, not me...... come on tell me you at least laughed at that, I am trying to make this at least entertaining to read) anyway, so then he proceeded to ask if any family, friends, coworkers etc.. have ever said anything about it and i again said no they had not mentioned anything about the eye.
So then it was back to answering more questions....
So at this point he proceeded with the exam and at one point took out a needle and stuck it on my forhead and asked if i could feel that and I said "yes" at this point he used the same needle and started prcking at my feet and legs and I had to tell him when i felt it. Afterwhich he informed me i have very poor feeling in my legs and feet. I told him, it has always been that way with my left food do to the surgeries but have never noticed an issue with my right foot and leg. (but how often do you have someone stick you with a needle and go "can you fell that")
I talked to him about the hives and the vomitting i have had in the past and he again wrote that all down and asked numerous questions. My blood pressure was also high when they took it which I told him was unusual. I am normally right at 120/80.
I also asked him about increasing my thyroid medication because i have been so tired lately. I explain to him that i go to the car and lay down during my breaks and sleep during my lunch break. I said that the doctors keep lowering my thyroid medication but I disagree becasue i jsut get more and more tired.
He assured me not to worry and we would get to the bottom of all of this. He said" you have had a rough bunch of months" and wanted to remind me that this won't be taken care of overnight but that he would get to the bottom of it. He has 3-4 ideas of what it could be but reminded me again it needs to be taken care of one step at a time and treatment will depend on one the future tests hold.
He has me scheduled for a Dexa scan this coming Monday. He also did a ton and I do mean a ton of blood work today. After I l;eft his office and went to the lab I counted that he has 18 blood tests scheduled. I jokingly said to the lab tech "hopefully, it isn't one vial of blood for each test" to which she responded "nope, it will only be 13 vials of blood!" That is no joke, they took 13 vials of blood. All I could do was laugh, I couldn't believe it.
So after this you are probably all wondering my thoughts on this, and it is that I really like this guy and the time he took to try and figure this out. So I feel like I am finally on a path to getting some answers. Like we all wondered, he said alot of these things could all be caused by the same problem or I might even have 2 different things going on be he was confident he could get to the bottom of it and like I said he even had some ideas of what could be casueing this.
He aslso requested that I send a signed waiver of release to Brookings Hospital, Sioux Valley Hospital, and Luverne HOspital so I could have all my medical records sent to him. He was mainly concerned/curious about the bipsies or surgeries where they have removed something from me (thyroid surgery, breast biopsies, colon surgeries,) He said reading up on those could help with his diagnoses.
He talked to me about the different things it could be but I will give you the one that I understand the best and are easiest to explain.
1) He thought it could be an issue with the adrenal gland because that would expalin some of the symptoms I have and it would "throw off" the thyroid blood work which would explain why the doctors want to lower the medication when I don't want them too.
So like I said, that is just one of the possabilities. I will keep you all informed as I find out more information but I am sure I/we are in for a long wait with all that blood work to be tested and evaluated plus another test on Monday. So you add that with the holidays coming up, I have just set my mind at "I'll find something out in Jan." I don't really think it will take that long but who knows if he has time off for vacation et...

Christmas time!
Hi everyone! We're getting VERY excited to see you all at the motel!! Can't wait!! (and to have a few days off work will be amazing too :) We're been trying to decorate our house so here are a few pics :)

Hi everyone,
We have ice with about 2-3 inches of snow on top of it. Jana was supposed to have a home game tonight vs. Knoxville and I was scheduled for the team meal. The storm is past so I just sent an e-mail the the Athletic Director to see if the game is still on or not. If the team we were to play was far away it might be canceled but since Knoxville is so close and the storm is over, I don't know if they'll still play it or not. I hope they let me know soon, so I know whether to start preparing all this food or not.
Saturday night is PC's Christmas Banquet so as a senior Mom I get to help serve and then afterwards we're having 5 couples including Jana and Mark over for food and games and then later the guys will leave and then Jana's having a bunch of girls over night. Should be a lot of fun!
I am so looking forward to having everyone one here for Christmas and then coming on to Worthington after that. It will be so much fun!!! Praying already for good weather for that time peirod as lots of people will be on the roads.

We have ice with about 2-3 inches of snow on top of it. Jana was supposed to have a home game tonight vs. Knoxville and I was scheduled for the team meal. The storm is past so I just sent an e-mail the the Athletic Director to see if the game is still on or not. If the team we were to play was far away it might be canceled but since Knoxville is so close and the storm is over, I don't know if they'll still play it or not. I hope they let me know soon, so I know whether to start preparing all this food or not.
Saturday night is PC's Christmas Banquet so as a senior Mom I get to help serve and then afterwards we're having 5 couples including Jana and Mark over for food and games and then later the guys will leave and then Jana's having a bunch of girls over night. Should be a lot of fun!
I am so looking forward to having everyone one here for Christmas and then coming on to Worthington after that. It will be so much fun!!! Praying already for good weather for that time peirod as lots of people will be on the roads.

Deidra Danae - how was your first high school basketball game?
For those who haven't read it yet you should check out the Triplets blog today. It is funny! It is all about their meal time "mess".
Does anyone out there reading this have a guess on Tony and Danielle's baby? I think it is going to be a girl!
Nothing else new here - hope you enjoyed the picture. Don't worry nephew and nieces - I took a bunch of pictures "of pictures" of your parents when they were kids. I also got some of Grandpa and Grandma younger years also. So those will be coming later and this way I don't only pick on the yuonger generation.
