Jana's knee

Hi everyone. Sorry I didn't put any information on sooner about Jana but she keeps saying it's not a big deal, so thought I'd wait till today when we thought we'd have an appointment with an orthopedic specialist. They were supposed to call and set up an appointment but never did. I finally called them back and the quickest we could get in with them was Thursday. That of course did not sit well with Jana. We had heard from different people of a really good Dr. in Ames, so I called them and since they knew some other PC kids that had gone there, they said they'd work Jana in tomorrow at 11:30.!

The physical therapist initually did not think it was her ACL or Meniscus but since it is not getting better and the pain has increased to where Jana was not sleeping at night he wanted to look into it further. We saw a medical Dr. on Friday and they took x-rays to make sure there were no fractures which there were not. They did find a bone cyst on her tibia which they did not seem concerned about. I looked it up on the internet and it sounds like bone cysts are quite common but are rare on the tibia which is where hers is at. So we will take the x-rays along tomorrow and have them check that out as well.

The medical Dr. on Friday did not intially think it was her ACL or Meniscus either but when there were no fractures he is a little concerned it might be a tear in oneof them since there is a little bit more "play" in her left knee than her right knee.

Please pray it is not a tear in her ACL as that would require major surgery and takes 6-9 months to recuperate. A tear in her Meniscus would not be as serious but would require surgery and about 6 weeks of rehab. Both the physical therapist and the medical Dr. say there is a chance it could be just a very bad bruise or sprain but want to get it checked out further before they allow her to play any more sports. Please pray that that's all it is.....a very bad sprain or bruse.

Jana of course is getting very impatient as softball tournments start Thursday and her volleyball practices for her AZ trip start already on July 17. I know she really wants to do both of these things but to be honest I'm just praying that she will be able to play her senior year of volleyball.

Right now she is still in pain but it is managable if she keeps taking her pain pills every 6 hours.

Anyway....Mom said yesterday you guys said I should put this into on the blog so here it is!

I'll let you all know more tomorrow after we've seen the specialist.

Love,
Arla
