Jason and I are home in Sioux Falls and had a great time and beautiful weather. We had lots of fun and even a few adventures along the way. Unfortunately I wont have a ton of pictures to post as I didn't take my digital camera along. I did take my old film camera so once the pictures get developed I'll take a few digital pictures of those pictures and post them on the blog.
We left Lein park in Sioux Falls around 10:30 on Friday morning and then traveled till about 7:30 that night when we made camp. It was a small shady area so we made some supper, started a fire and played some games. We didn't even put up the tent as Jaon slept in the kayak (yeah, I don't get either but he swears he was comfortable and I slept in a sleeping bag in the sand. It was awesome to lay under the stars and then wake up in the morning and see the river.
We got on the river again Saturday morning around 10:30am. We traveled for a few hours then made camp on a "sand barge" (thats what it reminded me of anyway. So we made some mac and cheese and tomato pasta and played some more games. We got bakc on the river and continued on the jorney. The plan was to travel a few more hours, make camp again and kayak a little while on Sunday before ending the trip. However, we got to Klondike Dam (which we knew was coming and would have to portage arond) however there was no clear marking that we could see as to where to get out of the kayaks. We called Zach (the owner of the kayaks) and a decision was made that he would come and pic us up early rather then risk getting to close to the dam when we were not able to see the exit point. So although the trip ended early we had a great time and I can't wait to do it again.
For those of you who didn't know this was Jason's 8th grade graduation trip. ( a year late as we didn't get it accomplished last year)
Happy 4th of July everyone,
Love Vonda
