I went to the surgeon today - and leave it to me... it didn't turn out as expected. He had a med student with him so he was explaining to him that although my gall bladder was not gangerous it was a bad as it could be without being gangrene. He stated it was just mush, and nothing really there.... so anyway, on to why it didn't turn out as expected. He took a look at the drainage tube and bulb and asked how much fluid I had been getting out of it etc.. and I gave him the records I had kept of the drainage every day since surgery. He then decided it was ok to pull the drain out. He proceeded to do that and it didn't hurt at all but was just a really weird feeling. The thing is when he pulled it out there was a huge blood clot at the end of it (partially in the tube and partially out of the tube), which meant that the drain probably shouldn't have been pulled since we don't know how much fluid is left in the wound that couldn't get past the blood clot to drain out. He said that I will probably have alot of drainage the next 4-5 days, and to be on the look out for any drastic change in the amount, color or odor of the fluid. If I see any of these changes I have to see him right away. I didn't ask what would happen at that point as I am hoping I won't have to see him again. So right now I am home with a hole in my stomach that is draining gunk out of it. Sorry, if that is to gross for some of you but that is where I am at today.
The good news is I feel fine and am getting stronger everyday. So I was hoping to go back to work tomorrow but do have the approval from the surgeon that as long as no drastic changes in the drainage I can go back to work on Monday.
